Q&A with Ainsley

Hi Gals! Ainsley is so nice to do this for me, so make sure to check out her blog! (The link will be at the bottom of this post.)

She is super kind and interesting, so I hope you enjoy getting to know her a little. 🙂

Hey! So my name is Ainsley. I’m 17 years old. I live in Florida with my mom and day and two younger siblings. I love the color blue because it’s the same color as my favorite sports team. Some other things I enjoy are writing, volleyball, hanging out with my friends, playing guitar and singing.

  1.  Who inspires you in your life? Why?

Hmmm, that question is kinda hard for me. Besides Jesus, some of my biggest inspirations are Sadie Robertson (I absolutely love everything about her) and my parents (they have some pretty cool God stories and are literally the best)

2. When do you feel most confident?

I feel most confident when I’m worshiping God or have just finished my personal time with Him. It’s easy to lose focus and get lost in the things of the world, but after I’ve refocused on God and am truly praising Him, I feel the most peace and can be confident in who God created me to be.

3. Let’s say you just met a person. What is something they could do or say to make you more comfortable?

For me, I appreciate when someone initiates the conversation. I can be a pretty shy person at times so I like it when someone else is able to ‘break the ice’ and is comfortable talking around me.

4. Give yourself a compliment right now that you feel like you need today. What is it? And why?

My compliment would be: ‘You are beautiful just the way you are. You don’t need to worry about what others think because God created you just the way you are.’ There’s a bunch of times I’ve struggled with self-image, from my weight to my height to my looks. I always need to remind myself that God has a plan and purpose for me and that I am beautiful in His sight, despite what the world may say. This is a constant battle though, but in the Bible it says that God turns our weaknesses to strength. And I believe that God wants to use our ‘flaws’ and differences to bring Him glory.

5. What makes you a good friend?

I like to think that I’m caring and understanding in my friendships. After reading ‘God Girl’ by Hayley DiMarco it really got me thinking about how many times I say ‘I’ in my conversations. It inspired me to start listening more in conversations and asking questions to show that I care.

6. What do you need to make more time for in your life?

To make more time in my life, I think I need to let go of a lot of things and focus on what God is calling me to do. Like I said earlier, we can get caught up in the things of the world which can cause us to feel like we’re not doing much. It’s only when we’re doing what God has called us to do that we can find true joy and purpose in life.

7. Who is your best friend? How you describe them, and why do you think you get along together so well?

Hmmm I have a lot of close friends but I would have to say that my closest one actually lives about 3,000 miles from me (I know, how ironic). I got to meet her before she moved across the country and she is the absolute sweetest person I’ve ever met. I love her passion for the Lord and how she draws me closer to Him. She’s one of my only friends I can be completely vulnerable with and have spiritual conversations with. Even though she has Lime & Mold disease, she is a fighter and is so strong. I love her to death.

8. What are some ways you think you strengthen your faith in your daily life?

To try to strengthen my faith I like to start my days with God in time with Him– I think that is so valuable. I love reading my Bible and talking with Him. Also, I’ve been trying to get better at praying more often and staying focused on Him throughout the day. I want to be able to talk to Him about anything and everything and also be able to hear what He is calling me to do. Other than that, I love watching Christian YouTube videos, listening to Christian music and going to youth group.

9. If you could give advice to your younger self, going through something hard, what would you tell her and at what age?

For my younger self, I wish I wasn’t as shy and that I made more bold moves for Christ. I regret all the missed opportunities I had and that I wasn’t more of a light for Christ. Often times I let fear get in the way when God could have used me. I wish I had replaced my fears with truth and faith in Christ and that I would do bold things in His name.

10. What is your favorite hot drink?

This may surprise you, but I’m not really into hot drinks. I’m not a huge coffee or tea person. BUT I do like hot apple cider in the fall time and also hot chocolate with lots of whip cream 🙂

11. Beach gal or mountain girl?

I am definitely a beach girl considering I live like 10 minutes from the beach. Although I think sand is annoying and am terrified of the creatures of the sea (and seagulls), I love the heat and how relaxing time at the beach is. BUT I have to be very careful because I get sunburned easily :p

12. What is one of your favorite childhood memories?

My favorite childhood memory is probably going on vacation with my extended family every summer. We would go to Georgia or North Carolina and rent a house for everyone to stay at. I loved spending time with my cousins and doing things around town. My favorite was probably tubing down this one large river.

13. 🙂 or 😀

I use both. I use 🙂 if I’m smiling and 😀 if I’m grinning or laughing. Kinda weird I guess.

14. Who are some people you couldn’t live without?

I can’t live without my family. Although my siblings annoy me sometimes, I truly love them. I am very blessed to have all of my family live pretty close to me. I get to see them often and I frequently take that for granted.

15. What is your current favorite song?

I have so many favorite songs. If I had to choose, I would say ‘Run’ by Urban Rescue. They played at a conference I just went to and they were absolutely amazing. The song has such a great message and is super catchy. Another one I like is ‘Days Gone By’ by Hillsong Young and Free. It just came out and I think it is so fun.

16. If you had to choose to live without one thing out of the following, which would it be?

A. Hairbrush
B. Conditioner
C. Hairspray

I would say a hairbrush. I know that kinda sounds crazy, but if I brush my hair, it gets super poofy so I hardly ever brush my hair. And if I had to, I could use my fingers.

17. As a child, what did you dream of doing?

As a child, I wanted to be a singer. I loved watching Hannah Montana and wanted to be just like her. The funny thing, though, is that I never performed in front of people and was very shy so I don’t know why I wanted to sing.

18. What is your favorite book?

Gosh, it’s so hard to choose a favorite. I absolutely love ‘Love Defined’ by Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird. In addition to that ‘Do Hard Things’ by Brett and Alex Harris was an incredible read.

19. Sunflower, Peach Blossom, or Poppy?

I’ve always loved sunflowers and thought they looked so happy

20. Chicken Salad or Tuna?

I actually like both a lot. I was just introduced to chicken salad a couple months ago and it is so delicious. So if I had to choose one over the other, I would say chicken salad.

21. When you see it has snowed, what is your first thought?

Well it doesn’t snow where I live so if it did snow, I would freak out :p but last year, my family was in North Carolina and it started to snow while we were driving. Once we got to our house for the week, and we ran outside and played in it for a couple of hours until I couldn’t feel may hands. It was so much fun!

22. To you, what is the message the world is telling us as teens about beauty? Do you think it is correct?

I think a lot of the world tells us that we need to have perfect skin, perfect facial features and be pretty. And it’s hard to measure up to that standard when everyone is unique and the idea of “pretty” is always changing. Finding your value in God and noticing how beautifully made you are is important. We need to try to please God instead of trying to please others.

50. What are some positive media sources you would suggest? (Like music, blogs, podcasts, etc.)

I absolutely love Christian YouTube channels and Christian music. Some of my favorite YouTubers are CoffeeAndBibleTime, FarAwayDistance, and Emma Mae Jenkins. Some of my favorite artists are Rend Collective, Urban Rescue, and Hillsong Young & Free

Q&A with Abby Rose

Hiya Lovelies! This is a Q&A with one of my close (And ranged high on favorites) blogger buddies! She is such a sweet person, and I hope you come to love her as much as I do!

She jumped at the chance to do this for me, so I owe her a big thank you! Hope Y’all enjoy! 😀

Hi! I’m Abby Rose, a 17-year-old blogger, author, writer, worship violinist and letter writer. I am the founder of Truly Beautiful (www.worthmorethangoldsite.wordpress.com) and Lovely Letters Ministry (www.lovelylettersministry.wordpress.com)  + the author of A Letter For The One (book available on Amazon). You can find me either writing, singing or making flower crowns + exploring on the ranch I live on. A few things I love are the color yellow + blue, sunflowers, llamas, leather journals, painting and the mountains + stars!

1. Name a book that spoke to you on a personal level. What is this book? And why did it stand out to you?

Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst. I have always struggled with feeling “uninvited” by others, so this book definitely taught me so many valuable truths on how to anchor my worth in who God says I am.

2. What is a missed opportunity you wished you had taken?

Reaching out to people + going beyond my comfort zone. There have been moments where I’ve let fear keep me from talking or sitting by someone and I missed opportunities to encourage someone or make a friend.

3. What do you look for in a close friend?

Someone who loves and lives for the Lord! More specifically, someone who is faithful, honest and kind. Someone whose friendship will lead me closer to Christ and challenge me in my walk with Him.

4. To show someone you love them, are you likely to use actions, words, or a different method?

Definitely words! Either through a letter, text, email or social media caption, I like to best express my feelings through words. I also like to make gifts for people! (Especially, homemade!)

5. When you are feeling down, what are some things that cheer you up?

Putting my phone away, grabbing God’s word and my journal! Opening up to a Psalm and writing down what things God speaks to me and uses to encourage me. I also love to grab my ukulele and play it or go outside and paint or read.

6. Flip-flops or sandals?

7. What is your favorite movie?

My favorite classic is Anne of Green Gables.

8. Chocolate or Strawberry?

Ughm, probably chocolate! But in some cases, strawberry. It just depends!

9. When you are sad, what are three things that almost always make you happy again?

10. What is the nicest thing someone has ever done\said to you? Why did it impact you so much?

One of the nicest things someone has ever done is one of my internet besties bought me a bunch of ingredients and sent them to me because I have food allergies and needed special flours and ingredients to bake to suit my allergies. It impacted me so much because she did it just simply to bless me, expecting nothing in return!

11. If you could back in time, what would you say to yourself at five, ten, and thirteen?

Five years old; keep smiling, singing and dancing to all that life brings! Keep that joy.

Ten: you don’t have to be loved and accepted by everyone. You are loved by God and that is all you need. It will make sense one day.

Thirteen: you could never begin to imagine all the beautiful things God has prepared for you. Keep going! You’re about to experience miraculous things.

12. Who inspires you most in life?

Stories from various people inspire me most. I love seeing the person on the side of the road talking to a homeless man, the girl who sits with the one who sits alone, the cashier that smiles at every customer. Small, gentle, kind acts that make the world a better place.

13. Have you ever felt forsaken by the Lord?

There was a time in my life where I became extremely sick and could hardly leave the house. I felt spiritually, physically and mentally drained and often felt like the Lord had forsaken me. I was constantly reminded that God has promised He will never leave me and His promises are true, I was never alone. He still had a plan in the midst of that hard time and has used it as a testimony I can share with others.

14. Are there area’s in your life that need to trust in Him? What are those?

Definitely, anything to do with public speaking and being on the stage in front of people! I have been on the stage my entire life, but I always get nervous and fearful before I walk on stage. I always fast and pray before I sing, play, act or speak on stage. I have to constantly rely on trusting Him in those times!

15. What is your favorite scripture?

One of my favorites is 2 Cor. 12:9!

16. What person in the Bible (aside from Jesus) has inspired you and strengthened you?

The story of Moses has always inspired me! The way God uses Him in spite of His weaknesses has taught me that God doesn’t give up on me! I don’t have to be perfect to be loved by perfect love.

17. List three areas in your life that you are weakest. Does the Lord help you with these?

  • Going out of my comfort zone. God constantly pulls me beyond the shore into the waves.
  • Letting go. I always want to hold on and take control. It’s harder for me to surrender, let go and move on.
  • Being bold. Sorta like my comfort zone, but I have to pray for boldness to do all God has called me to do.

18. Do you think your blogging has brought you closer to the Lord?

OH YES! Some of my biggest experiences and lessons have been put into word-form and posted on my blog. By blogging, I’m not only able to connect with wonderful sisters in Christ around the world, but also look back on how far God has brought me. It’s a passion of mine too and brings me so much joy.

19. If you could live the life of someone in the Bible, who would it be, and why?

Mary. Such a hard life to live, but what a miracle that was born through her!

20. Pizza or popcorn?

PIZZA! My favorite food!

21. Do you think you are confident? Why do you think that?

I am fully confident that the Lord has placed me on this earth for a reason and I am who He says I am! I am empowered to do all things for His glory through Him, and I have no reason to fear!

22. Sunset or sunrise? Why?

Sunrise. It reminds me of “His mercies that are brand new”.

23.  Hug or handshake?

Hug! I’m the most awkward at handshakes! And I really love squishy hugs!!

24. Describe yourself in two words. What are they and why?

Passionate – I am VERY passionate about defending the truth and fighting for what is right.

Go-getter. I am constantly looking for ways to do more and achieve more and learn more.

25. Bare feet or fuzzy socks?

FUZZY SOCKS!!! (Unless it’s hot!)

26. What is your favorite season? Why?

Autumn! I like to use the words crisp and cozy to describe it. Although I love spring and flowers, autumn reminds me more that life comes in seasons and even in the dead times, there is still beauty.

27. What is your favorite smell in the whole world? And how would you describe it?

Ooohhhh goodness, probably the smell of Christmas trees! It just reminds me of so much happiness!!!!

28. How would you tell a blind friend, what the sky looks like?

“Imagine soft and delicate, the feeling you get when you’re really happy and have no worries in the world.”

29. Ocean or lake? Why?

I would have to say a lake! Although they’re smaller, they remind me of gentle beauty.

Whenever you can, check out her blogs! They are awesome!

Q&A With Hannah

Hi, Gals! One of my blogger friends agreed to do a Q&A about beauty, herself, as well as any extra topic questions I throw at her! Hope you enjoy!

Hey, I’m Hannah R, known as The Different Girl online. I am just a Jesus loving, crazy dreaming, milkshake loving kind of girl. I love to encourage others (and myself)  😉 to embrace their quirks and be themselves. I’m homeschooled, my favorite color is purple and you can either find me blogging or eating ice-cream.

  1. Everyone has bad days. What is some advice you would give, and what are some self-care tips you would suggest?

I think firstly it is important to accept that the day isn’t going the greatest, that way you can work on ways on improving it instead of circling around the fact that it’s a bad day.

To help improve your day, maybe chat with someone, treat yourself to something you love or get outside.

2. What do you think it means to live fearlessly? And how are some ways you do it?

Fear is definitely something that I struggle with. To let go of fear I think is to fully give it over to God and learn to trust Him more each day. I’m learning each day how to let go of my fear and it’s not a quick thing to live fearlessly because of the way fear is ingrained in us. Something that is helping me, is to recognize that I am becoming fearful in that situation and to pray about it right then and then try journal through it to help my brain process what is happening.

3. What are some of your favorite quotes

“Be yourself everyone else is already taken”

-Oscar Wilde

And a quote by Morgan Harper Nichols but one I love by her is, “This is the season she will make beautiful things, not perfect things but honest things that speak to who she is and who she is called to be.”

4. Any good media you would suggest?

I love the podcast called Girls Night by Stephanie May Wilson.

Allison and Ainsley’s blogs are awesome and @divinedependence, @kiki.judith, and @my.messiah.does.miracles on Instagram are great too. But there are so many more great people sharing their journeys to encourage others.

5. Where do you look when you feel like you should be perfect, and it starts to affect your daily life?

When I feel like I need to be perfect or start comparing myself, I normally have to stop whatever I’m doing that’s making me feel that way (example: take a social media break) and re focus my attention on who God says I am and what He has given me. I know it sounds cheesy but I seriously am learning to actively retrain my brain to stop believing the lies. The main way I do this is to keep repeating verses I love over again or singing the song ‘Jesus loves me’ to myself.

6. Have you ever felt like you haven’t measured up to standards everyone else has?

Yes definitely, I often feel I should workout more, eat healthier, get better grades etc because of the way the world is constantly telling you to achieve more and glorify yourself.

7. Why do you think gossip is bad?

Gossip can really hurt people and so that immediately turns it bad. When we gossip we are only doing it for our own pleasure and putting ourselves first. But God really wants us to put others before us and be sensitive to how others feel and respect others opinions

8.What are some things that make you smile?

Journaling or any kind of writing, eating ice-cream, singing completely out of tune for fun, watching a good movie and being with my family.

9. Do you believe staying healthy is part of self love?

I think there is a fine line between loving yourself and idolizing yourself. I don’t believe our main goal should love ourselves but to love others and God more but still be confident in being the person God has made us to be. Being healthy is a way we can honor our bodies and glorify God.

10.Growing up, what are some things you really struggled with? And how did God help you overcome them?

Anxiety is something I’ve grown up with and do still struggle with but God is constantly helping me get better. He has helped me get better by constantly showing up when I so need Him and being faithful, He always reminds me of who He is and who He says I am.

11. What is some of your favorite music?

I only listen to Christian music, I love Casting Crowns, Britt Nicole and Francesca Battistelli

12. Who are some people who have inspired you?

Online, I would say Jess Conte, Kristin Johns, Cambria Joy and Katie Emmerson and my friend Meg.

In my day to day life, I would say my mom and sister.

13. What gave you the inspiration behind the name of your blog? And to you, what does it mean to be different?

My own journey to accept who God has made me to be and being told my quirks and loving Jesus wasn’t a good thing, really sparked my passion for being different. Being different means going against the world’s ways and really standing out for what you believe.

14. What is your sense of style like?

I dress very casually, normally leggings or in Summer I love dresses.

15. What are some times you have felt really close to God, while you were facing difficult choices?

When I was at my lowest with my mental health, God really reminded me of the hope He has given me.

16. Why do you think it is important to read God’s word?

For me, I read the Bible because it provides us with everything we need, it gives us hope, it helps to recognize the right path to go on, it shows God’s character. It is a way to really connect with God

17. What are some of your favorite books?

At the top of my list will always be, The Christy Miller series by Robin Jones Gunn (anything by her is great!)

And I loved Cultivate by Lara Casey too! Those are my top choices!

18. At the end of all this, please define what beauty is to you:

True beauty is the way your heart looks and your pure love for the Lord. Your personality should be more beautiful than your physical appearance.

That is all! Thanks so much Hannah!
